Buddhika M. Hapuwatte, Ph.D.
is a Post-doctoral Researcher
with expertise in the fields of
Circular Economy,
Sustainable Manufacturing,
System Optimization,
System Dynamics Modeling, and
Design for Sustainability.

He is currently working at the University of Maryland as a Post-doctoral Associate, and collaborates with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Engineering Lab’s Systems Integration Division (SID).

Dr. Hapuwatte was awarded the “Fellowship in Manufacturing Science for the Circular Economy” by NIST.

He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering. His dissertation topic was “Redesigning Products to Optimize Sustainable Performance in Multi-generational Closed-loop Productions for Circular Economy.”
